Spotlight
Andrew Martin has spent a lifetime on the water, but his journey into kayak fishing began in 2005 after selling his boat. With experience in both freshwater and saltwater fishing, Andrew eventually brought his competitive nature to tournament kayak fishing, entering his first event in October 2019. From there, he never looked back.
Already a two-time Bassmaster Kayak Series National Championship qualifier in 2023 and 2025, Andrew entered this season with another goal in mind: Arizona Kayak Bass Nation Angler of the Year.
After finishing second in the AOY race the previous season, Andrew came into this year determined to take the next step. Consistency became the story of his season. He cashed a check in every AOY event he fished, recording two 3rd-place finishes, two 4th-place finishes, and a 2nd-place finish in the Championship.
The AOY race came down to the Championship, where Andrew's runner-up finish secured the AOY title and punched his ticket back to the Bassmaster Kayak Series Championship. One tournament delivered two major accomplishments and capped off an incredibly consistent season.
On the water, Andrew prides himself on versatility. During the Championship, the crankbait played a major role, but he's equally confident fishing his own fast-paced version of a drop shot—somewhere between a power-shot and BFS approach—pitching quickly and aggressively to targets. In the spring, sight fishing is another favorite. Andrew compares it to hunting, relying on his ability to read a fish and determine whether it's willing to bite before ever making a cast.
Representing Arizona on the national stage means even more because of the anglers who helped him get there. Andrew credits the Arizona Kayak Bass Nation community and the knowledge he's gained from fellow competitors with helping him develop into the tournament angler he is today.
At 62, Andrew is also one of the more experienced anglers in the group. Retiring somewhat early has allowed him to spend more time pursuing the things he enjoys. Outside of fishing, Andrew and his wife love to travel. Having lived in three countries outside the United States, seeing more of the world remains one of their favorite pursuits.
Now, Andrew Martin will once again take what he's learned in Arizona and put it to the test on the national stage, representing Arizona Kayak Bass Nation at the Bassmaster Kayak Series Championship.
